The National Agency of Protected Areas, NAPA, and the Regional Administrate of Protected Area, RAPA Berat, are organizing the Final Conference of the project LASPEH, which will be held at the premises of RAPA Berat on 14 April 2021 at 11:00.
During the event, the results of LASPEH project in Albania, and in particular in the area of Tomorr Mountain, Dardhë and Kapinov, will be presented, with regards to the conservation plan and concrete actions carried out for the better protection of Western Capercaillie, Tetrao urogallus, part of Red List species in Albania, that grows in this area.
Through this project NAPA implemented concrete actions such as afforestation of the involved territories improving the habitats of Tetrao urogallus. Although this area is known for the presence of this species, the number of individuals these 20 years had greatly decreased, going towards extinction. With the imposition of the hunting moratorium, field reports show that the presence of this species has been increasing.
The project also brought an increase of tourists’ interest for protected areas and community raising awareness as well as the positive impact of the protected areas, in the surrounding local communities. This was done through education campaigns with school students and community of the area.
Finally, in the frame of the LASPEH project NAPA also revitalized the existing paths, where this specie can be found, and built a simple view point structure for tourists, able to watch not only rare samples of Western Capercaillie, but also the beautiful surrounding landscape.
