The Info Day of the Project LASPEH “Low Adriatic Species and Habitat”, organised by the Italian Municipality of Guardiaregia, was held on Thursday, 28 February 2019 at the beautiful auditorium of “Convitto Mario Pagano” of Campobasso, in Molise Region.
Authorities, representatives of environmental organizations, local media and participants livened up this day dedicated to LASPEH, a project funded by INTERREG IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro Programme, whose aim is to promote and support the biodiversity safeguard reducing the contraction of biological diversities.
Among the speakers, there were Mr Fasciano, the executive of “Convitto Mario Pagano”, Mr Mario Ialenti, responsible of the Cooperation Office of Molise Region, Mr Fabio Iuliano and Mrs Simona Valente, Mayors of Guardiaregia and Campochiaro respectively, Mr Nicola Cavaliere, Regional Councillor of Agriculture and Environment, Mrs Pina Negro, WWF National Delegate for Molise, Mr Stefano Vitale and Mr Giovanni Plescia, technical experts of Municipality of Guardiaregia.
Several topics were highlighted, such as the importance of Molise Region participation in EU projects in the strategic field of environmental protection and the new collaboration with the protected area “Oasi WWF di Guardiaregia-Campochiaro”, instituted in Molise in 1997 and functional to implement the project LASPEH.
In particular, participants were informed about the project and its concrete actions that will be carried out in Molise: for example, the clean-up of the canyon of Torrente Quirino (Quirino Creek) crossing the protected WWF Oasis, with the illustration of the ground-breaking systems and technologies that will be used.
LASPEH project, co-funded for around 500.000 EUR by the Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro Programme, Priority Axis 3 “Environment protection, risk management and low carbon strategy”, faces the loss of biodiversity by defining a common strategy to preserve the natural heritage and the landscape in the Low Adriatic basin.
The Management Consortium of Regional Natural Park “Coastal Dunes from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo” is the lead beneficiary of this project in cooperation with partners from Albania (National Agency of Protected Areas), Montenegro (Public Enterprise of National Parks of Montenegro) and three Italian partners (Management Body of the Regional Natural Reserves of the Eastern Coast of Taranto, Municipality of Ugento and Municipality of Guardiaregia).
LASPEH will implement in two years several activities such as a transnational joint strategy for the better management of priority species in Natura 2000 sites, conservation plans on three priority species and their pilot areas to be adopted at local (regional) level, conservation pilot actions to improve the level of protection of target species/habitats and boost long lasting environmental conservation, and finally awareness campaign on stakeholders (targeted workshops addressed to schools and families on environment preservation, visits to natural sites for children, schools and families to boost sustainable tourism).
